Lauren Lee and Carly White recorded 19 kills apiece and combined to stake Mount Olive to an early lead in the fifth set as the Trojans outlasted Barton 21-25, 21-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-11 in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Friday at Wilson, N.C. The win gives Mount Olive the regular season sweep over Barton and moves the Trojans into a third-place tie with the Bulldogs in the conference standings.

Mount Olive (12-13 overall, 9-6 Conference Carolinas) led the entire fifth set as the Trojans took a 3-0 lead after a kill by Lee and a kill and a block by White. The margin grew to as many as four points and Barton pulled within a point at 10-9. But that's as close as the Bulldogs would get as Lee's kill helped the Trojans build the lead to 13-10.

After a Barton side out on Melissa Cochran's kill, a Bulldog attack error gave Mount Olive match point. Nicole Sparks closed out the win with her second ace of the match.

Sparks' match-winning ace was the 10th of the night for the Trojans. Lee had a team-high three aces, while Charnel Austin and Elyse Keating added three aces apiece.

After the two teams split the first two sets by identical scores, Mount Olive appeared to take control of the match in the third set. The Trojans scored seven consecutive points to turn a one-point deficit into a 13-7 advantage. The margin never fell below four points and Mount Olive ended the set on an 8-2 run, capped by a block by Montgomery Register and Sarah Watkins on set point.

Barton (13-11, 9-6) rebounded in the fourth set as the Bulldogs used four consecutive kills by Kaitlyn Micol to jump out to a 12-5 lead. Mount Olive rallied to tie the set as a kill by Lee and a block by White evened the set at 15-15. But Cochran's kill broke the tie and put Barton ahead to stay and set up the deciding fifth set.

Mount Olive rallied from a six-point deficit in the first set to take a 16-15 lead before Barton came back to win the set. The Trojans dropped the opening set to Barton in the first meeting this season and also lost the first set in Tuesday's four-set win over Limestone.

In the first meeting against Barton, Mount Olive was one point away from facing a two-set deficit before going on a 5-0 run to win the second set and go on to win the match in four sets. Friday night, the Trojans trailed 20-18 in the second set before a block and two kills by Lee highlighted a 7-1 run to close out the set. White's kill on set point evened the match at a set apiece.

Lee's 19 kills were a career high for the senior. Keating also established a career high with 47 assists. White and Watkins added five blocks apiece, while Austin led four Trojans in double figures with 14 digs. Sparks had 12 digs, Lee notched a double-double with 11 digs and Jordan Barnes added 10 digs.

Micol had 14 kills and three aces for Barton, while Cochran added 13 kills and a match-high eight blocks. Amanda Grandy also had three aces as the Bulldogs matched the Trojans with 10 service aces.

With three conference matches remaining, Mount Olive is in control of its own destiny to finish among the top four in the final standings and host a quarterfinal-round match in the 2013 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Tournament, which gets underway November 16.

Mount Olive steps out of conference Saturday as the Trojans travel to Raleigh, N.C., to take on Saint Augustine's. Match time is 6 p.m.
