Box Score A pair of goals six minutes apart midway through the first half was the difference as Mount Olive fell to Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas men's soccer Saturday at Amon Field. The match was the Trojans' final home contest of the year.
Prior to the match, Trojan seniors Tyler Vandevender and Josh Woodburn were recognized during Senior Day ceremonies.
Mount Olive (2-14-0 overall, 1-6-0 Conference Carolinas) kept Lees-McRae scoreless until the Bobcats capitalized on a Trojan miscue in the 27th minute. Matthew Cureton scored to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Andrew Shoemaker added a goal in the 33rd minute to cap the scoring for Lees-McRae (8-6-1, 5-3-0).
The Trojans finished with 11 shots, but were unable to connect. Lees-McRae had 15 shots.
Mount Olive is idle until next Saturday when the Trojans conclude regular season play with a Conference Carolinas match-up against King. The Trojans still have a shot at qualifying for next month's conference tournament, but will need to defeat King and get help from other results. Match time is 3 p.m. at Bristol, Tenn.
