Trojans Rally For 2-1 Overtime Victory Over Chowan

Box Score

Fernando Tacuri's goal in the 89th minute tied the match and Tyler Vandevender scored the game-winner in the third minute of overtime as Mount Olive rallied for a 2-1 victory over Chowan in non-conference men's soccer Tuesday at Amon Field. After being shut out for more than 88 minutes, the Trojans scored their two goals in a span of less than four minutes of playing time.

Mount Olive (2-10-0) pressured in the final minutes and broke through with the equalizer when Josiah Saydee beat his defender and dribbled to the right side of the box, forcing the Chowan keeper to challenge. Saydee crossed to Tacuri, who had plenty of time to settle and strike the ball inside the left post at the 88:40 mark to force overtime.

In the overtime period, an early Chowan foul set the Trojans up for a free kick. Vandevender converted to give Mount Olive its first overtime win of the season.

Chowan (0-11-0) capitalized on a corner kick in the 17th minute to take an early lead. Dale Pearson served the ball to Pedro Aiala, who scored to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Mount Olive is right back in action Wednesday as the Trojans travel to Hickory, N.C., to take on Lenoir-Rhyne in a non-conference contest. Match time is 5 p.m.
