Box Score Mount Olive senior Janaya Finney scored twice in three minutes, lifting the Trojans to a 2-1 come-from-behind Conference Carolinas women's soccer victory over North Greenville Saturday afternoon in Tigerville, S.C.
Finney, who scored one goal in each of her sophomore and junior seasons, picked the perfect time to have an offensive outburst. With Mount Olive (2-7-1 overall, 2-4-0 Conference Carolinas) trailing 1-0, Finney pulled her team even with an unassisted goal in the 75th minute. It did not take long for Finney to find the net again. After teammate Daisy Thomas just missed the goal, Finney took a pass from Sydney Nelson and beat the Crusader goalkeeper for the game-winner.
The rally made a winner out of Trojan keeper Kelsey Cirrito, who combined with starter Carolin Edenhofner to keep North Greenville (0-8, 0-5) in check. Neither keeper recorded a save, as the Trojans allowed the Crusaders just three shots on goal in the contest.
North Greenville's first attempt came from Leah Ward in the 27th minute and found the back of the net with help from a Jade Salle assist.
The Trojans had a chance with 1:14 remaining before intermission when Crusader goalkeeper Taylor Kelley came up with a save on a penalty kick by Maddy Robak.
Kelly finished with three saves, including a pair early in the second period on shots by Ellie Barnes and Damilia Brooks. Mount Olive outshot the Crusaders 7-2 in the second half.
The Trojans return to action Tuesday night when Chowan comes to Amon Field for a 7 p.m. start. The men's contest will begin at 4 p.m.
