Mount Olive raced out to a 4-0 lead, then held off a late rally by King to win its first contest of the season 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Amon Field. Aldo Del Valle, John Kwennah, Josh Woodburn and Cort Harter scored their first goals of the season to back the goalkeeping of Nick Bernsdorf and Kyle Lavender.

The Trojans (1-4 Overall, 1-1 Conference Carolinas) had the Tornado on the defense from the outset. Four minutes into the contest, Kwennah just missed a goal when King keeper Cameron Sauro made a diving deflection of a shot from point-blank range. Twelve minutes later, Kwennah's blast from 20 yards out was just wide.

The Trojans finally found the back of the net at the 31-minute mark when freshman Aldo Del Valle scored his first collegiate goal following a penalty 20 yards away. Less than three minutes later, Kwennah's perserverence paid off. He stole the ball from a King defender in front of the goal, then blasted the ball in for a 2-0 lead.

Both goals came after Sauro left the game with a leg injury. Sauro saved a potential goal by Trojan Ruben Hurtado, but in the process, was accidentally kicked. He did not return.

Mount Olive took the 2-0 lead into intermission. In the second period, Mount Olive struck again in the 69th minute on a kick by Josh Woodburn just outside the keeper's box following a penalty. King's third goalkeeper of the match, Joshua Feener, got a hand on the ball, but was not able to keep it out of the goal.

Cort Harter closed out the scoring for Mount Olive when he out-leaped a King defender on a header in front of the net. Woodburn fed a lead pass to Emmanuel Wennah, who then gave Harter a crossing pass in front.

Mount Olive's hopes of an easy win did not last long. The Tornado struck twice in the final four minutes, the first on a Cheo Armstrong goal from a Jarred McKinney assist. Less than two minutes later, Daniel Grossi scored on a penalty kick.

The Trojans return to action Tuesday afternoon when Mount Olive travels to Pfeiffer for a 4 p.m. start.
