Box Score Mount Olive College freshman Pablo Galarza scored his first collegiate goal and Nick Bernsdorf saved three shots, but the Trojans could not overcome two first half goals and dropped a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer match at USC Aiken Monday night in Aiken, S.C.
The Trojans (3-7-1 overall) fell behind in the 20th minute when Chinedu Arinze scored on a give and go in the box. Teammate Mohamed Fall supplied the assist. The Pacers (4-3-3) added insurance just before intermission when Chevy Augustine headed in a free kick from Dean Smith to give USC Aiken a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Six minutes into the second half, the Trojans found the back of the net when Galarza redirected a free kick from Kelly Keaton in to cut the deficit in half.
Mount Olive got no closer, however, as Joshua Poissant and Brandon Jarosz combined for five saves in the Pacer net.
USC Aiken and Mount Olive concluded the match with 13 shots each. The two teams each had three corner kicks.
Mount Olive continues its three-match road trip Wednesday when the Trojans travel to Wilson to meet Conference Carolinas rival Barton. The women will play at 4 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.
