Mount Olive saw its two-match winning streak snapped as the Trojans fell to Fayetteville State 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 in non-conference women's volleyball Tuesday at Fayetteville, N.C. Carly White led the Trojans with eight kills.

Mount Olive (7-9) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set as White recorded a kill and a block, and Lauren Lee served an ace. Fayetteville State (13-2) rallied as Joi Emmanuel's kill broke a 6-6 tie and the Broncos led the remainder of the set.

Kills by Sarah Robertson and Dezirae Mackey gave Mount Olive an early lead in the second set, but a block and a pair of kills by Emmanuel highlighted a 6-0 run to put Fayetteville State on top 12-7. The Trojans got as close as 20-18, but three consecutive aces by JaMisha Jordan helped the Broncos take a two-set lead.

Back-to-back aces by Nicole Karas helped Mount Olive build a 9-6 advantage in the third set. The Trojans were still up 12-10 when Fayetteville State used five aces by Paige Horne during a run of nine unanswered points to go on top to stay. Two more aces by Karas helped pull the Trojans within 20-17, but Fayetteville State scored five of the final six points to put the match away.

Karas matched a career high with four aces to go with 15 assists. Nicole Sparks led Mount Olive defensively with 10 digs. The Trojans were held to a season-low 1.5 team blocks.

Emmanuel and Ifeyinwa Nwokolo shared match-high honors with 12 kills apiece. Nwokolo's final kill came on match point. Emmanuel led all players with five blocks. Horne and Jordan finished with five aces apiece for the Broncos, which extended its winning streak to six and improved to 8-0 at home.

Mount Olive takes to the road this weekend for a pair of Conference Carolinas matches. The Trojans go to Charlotte, N.C., Friday for a 7 p.m. match-up against Queens, then head to Misenheimer, N.C., Saturday to take on Pfeiffer. Match time is 2 p.m.
