Box Score Mount Olive trailed early in each set and never recovered as the Trojans fell to Erskine 25-17, 25-12, 25-17 in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Friday at Kornegay Arena. Erika Conner recorded a team-high 10 kills for Mount Olive for her sixth double-digit total in her last eight matches.
Mount Olive (5-10 overall, 1-6 Conference Carolinas) pulled within 9-8 in the third set after a kill by Conner, a Carly White ace and a block by Dezirae Mackey and Ashlee Reuter. But Erskine used three consecutive service aces by Bailey Thornton during a 5-0 run and the Trojans never got any closer than four points the rest of the way.
Erskine (10-6, 5-1) led 22-12 in the first set before kills by Conner and White sparked a late Mount Olive run. Erskine's Caitlin Bullock helped stake the Flying Fleet to leads of 6-0 and 9-1 in the second set, recording four kills and an ace in the first nine points. The margin never fell below seven points during the set.
White finished with seven kills and only one error in 14 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage for Mount Olive. Charnel Austin recorded 24 assists, while Lauren Lee shared match-high honors with nine digs.
Erskine finished with a .436 hitting percentage as Sandra Campbell had a match-high 13 kills and no errors for a .650 hitting percentage, while Jamie Murray added 11 kills and only one error in 18 attempts for a .556 hitting percentage. Larz Chabra finished with 36 assists for the Flying Fleet, while Bullock and Thornton each served a match-high three aces. Campbell also had four blocks.
Mount Olive returns to action Saturday as the Trojans play host to Converse in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Mount Olive won both meetings last year. Match time is 2 p.m. at Kornegay Arena. Live Video is available.
