Women's Volleyball Falls To Queens 3-1

Mount Olive kept the match alive with a third-set win, but the Trojans eventually fell to Queens 25-23, 25-16, 27-29, 25-22 in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Tuesday at Charlotte, N.C. Mount Olive setter Charnel Austin became the first Trojan player in six years to record a "40-20" match, finishing with 40 assists and 21 digs.

Carly White led three Trojans in double figures with a match-high 15 kills. Erika Conner finished with 11 kills and Sarah Robertson added 10 kills. Defensively, Lauren Lee recorded 17 digs and Nicole Sparks added 11 digs. Sparks and Conner served two aces apiece.

Mount Olive (13-13 overall, 6-8 Conference Carolinas) finished with a 47-45 advantage over the Royals in kills, but the Trojans hurt themselves with 42 attack errors. Queens (16-7, 10-2) played a role in Mount Olive's errors with 14.5 team blocks. Brittany Harvey led the Royals with eight kills and seven blocks.

Prior to Austin's career-high digs total Tuesday, the last Trojan player to have a 40-20 match was Sara Christie on October 9, 2005. Christie recorded 49 assists and 21 digs against Converse.

Mount Olive plays its final two regular season home matches this weekend as the Trojans play host to King Friday at 7 p.m. and North Greenville Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kornegay Arena. Saturday's contest is also Senior Day. The Trojans' lone senior, Destiny Ma'ave-Kuewa, will be recognized during ceremonies prior to the match.
