Kristen Gurley was named Assistant Director of Athletics and Compliance Coordinator at the University of Mount Olive in September 2021.
As compliance coordinator, Gurley serves as chair of the UMO Compliance Committee, which oversees eligibility issues for student-athletes and keeps the athletics staff informed of NCAA regulations. She also oversees the Director of Student-Athlete Development, ensuring an emphasis on the personal growth of UMO student-athletes.
Gurley previously served as Mount Olive's Director of Sports Medicine from 2011-18 where she oversaw three assistant athletic trainers. She also supervised sports medicine at the NCAA Division II Baseball National Finals, which are co-hosted by University of Mount Olive and Town of Cary.
Following her departure from UMO Gurley served as a Clinical Supervisor and Athletic Trainer at Goldsboro Physical Therapy in Goldsboro, N.C.
She is a member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association (MAATA) and North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association (NCATA).
She's a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) and attended the NCAA/NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement West Class in 2011.
Prior to her time as the Director of Sports Medicine, Gurley spent eight years as associate athletic trainer at Adrian College in Michigan. Gurley's main sports assignments were baseball, volleyball and men’s ice hockey while helping to cover all of Adrian’s 26 athletics teams. She also spent three months as interim head athletic trainer. In addition, Gurley spent four years as Adrian’s senior woman administrator.
Gurley earned her B.S. degree in physical education with a concentration in exercise science from Western Michigan University. She completed her master’s degree in sports medicine with a concentration in sports health science from Armstrong Atlantic State University, where she also served as a graduate assistant trainer. Gurley spent the next year as assistant athletic trainer at Memorial Health Medical University Center (Savannah, Ga.), which provided coverage for Savannah College of Art and Design. Gurley's primary sports assignments were women’s basketball, softball and volleyball.
