Jackson Massey

An alumnus of the program and former first-team all-region pitcher, Jackson Massey enters his first season as an assistant coach at Mount Olive in 2023-24.

Massey returns to Mount Olive after serving eight years as the Co-Athletic Director and Head Varsity Baseball Coach at North Lenoir High School in La Grange, North Carolina. He also worked as a Health/Physical Education Teacher for grades 9-12.

While overseeing all athletics at North Lenoir, Massey also was a member of the school improvement team and head grounds crew of athletic fields. During his tenure as head varsity baseball coach of the Hawks, he was a four-time Area Coach of the Year and two-time Conference Coach of the Year while garnering the 2018 Region 2 Coach of the Year accolade. Massey was also selected Wayne County Hot Stove Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2022.

Prior to North Lenoir, he worked at Southern Wayne High School (2013-16) in Dudley, North Carolina, as a physical education and weight training teacher. He also served as Varsity Baseball Coach and Junior Varsity Football Coach with the Saints. He implemented the "Wise Guys" program at Southern Wayne, which instituted the importance of health and positive relationships. Following graduation from UMO, Massey served as a Health/Physical Education Teacher at Wayne Middle High Academy in Goldsboro, North Carolina, from 2010-13.

Massey was a four-year member of the UMO Baseball program (2006-10) and played for the 2008 Division II National Championship team, which posted a 58-6 overall record. During his senior year, he was named co-captain and had a breakout season on the mound for the Trojans. Massey made 16 appearances with 10 starts and posted a 7-2 record with a 2.50 ERA over 72.0 innings pitched. He earned Daktronics All-Southeast First-Team honors as a starting pitcher and was named first-team all-conference. Mount Olive finished the 2010 campaign with a 41-11 record and claimed the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship, while Massey was selected to the all-tournament team.

He completed his bachelor's degree in recreation and leisure studies from the University of Mount Olive in 2010.
