Jerrodd “Coach Fat” Williams enters his first year with University of Mount Olive Track & Field as an assistant coach. Williams will primarily work with long sprints, hurdles, and relays
Prior to Williams arrival he oversaw Bemidji State University sprints and relays that broke four program records between indoor and outdoor season. The Beavers 4x400m relay team broke records on both a 200m and 300m track while senior Maryse Mbenoun broke a nearly 20-year program record in the 500m run during the indoor season. The 4x200m relay team also broke the previous outdoor record set in 1987 with a time of 1:43.03 at the Drake Relays. During the outdoor season, sophomore Alaina Hall set three top 10 marks in BSU history in the 100m dash, ending the season with a fifth-place finish in the event at the 2022 NSIC Outdoor Championships. Hall ranked sixth in the NSIC and 17th in the NCAA Central Region in the 60m dash indoors and ranked ninth in the NSIC and 32nd in the NCAA Central Region in the 100m dash outdoors. The 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams also earned points at the conference meet with finishes of third and fourth, respectively. Four of Williams’ student-athletes earned Winter and Spring All-Academic honors.
Williams served as an assistant coach for Southeastern Iowa Community College. Williams was responsible for training a national qualifier in the 600m run before departing due to COVID-19.
Williams began his coaching career in the high school ranks at Berkeley High School in Charleston, S.C., and Daniel High School in Central, S.C. He served as the head sprint and assistant hurdles and jumps coach at DHS, helping guide the team to two state runner-up championships and a 4x400m relay state championship in 2019. Williams coached dozens of all-state sprinters and helped train the 2018 National AAU Triple Jump Champion.
Williams was posted the head track & field coach at Berkeley High School in 2019. On average, Williams helped all of his 400m sprinters decrease their times by at least 3.0 seconds while his 100m and 200m sprinters decreased their times by 1.83 seconds.
Williams began his collegiate career at Virginia Tech in 2009 where he received an offer to run track & field and play football. He played only football at Virginia Tech before transferring to Clemson University to earn two athletic letters in football. Williams graduated in 2014 with a degree in business management and a minor in sociology.
Williams earned South Carolina All-State honors in the 100m dash and long jump as a prep athlete at Daniel High School. He also attained USTFCCCA. Technical Coaching Certification.
