HARTSVILLE, S.C. --- Mount Olive fell in five sets to the Cobras of Coker College on Tuesday evening in non-conference men's volleyball in Hartsville, S.C. Max Cristina had a career night with 14 kills in the contest.

How It Happened


  • The Cobras opened the first set on a 4-1 run but the Trojans countered with a 5-1 run to go ahead 6-5.
  • A 7-4 rally by Coker put the host team up two, 12-10.
  • Mount Olive scored four straight on four Cobra errors to take a 14-12 lead into a Coker timeout.
  • Following the timeout, the teams traded points and saw the score knot up nine times, last at 23 all, before the Cobras put together a pair of points to win the opening set 25-23.


  • UMO came out to open the second set on a 4-0 run that included a pair of kills, a Max Cristina ace and a double block by Jesiah Orr and Yigit Erkek.
  • Coker came back on a 4-0 run of their own to tie the score before Mount Olive went on a 10-5 run to take a 14-9 lead.
  • Mount Olive took a 20-12 lead following a 6-3 run that spanned a Coker timeout.
  • The Cobras rallied to come back within five points, 23-18, but ran out of time as the Trojans scored two consecutive points on a Cobra service error and a Cristina service ace to win 25-18.


  • The third set saw the Trojans take an early 8-3 lead right out of the gate.
  • Coker came back to pull within three points, 15-12, following a 9-7 rally by the Cobras.
  • Mount Olive reopened a seven-point lead, 21-14, following a 6-2 run that included two kills, a solo block by Cristina, and three Cobra errors.
  • Four consecutive points by Coker cut the UMO lead to three, 21-18, but the Trojans held off the Cobras to win the third set 25-20.


  • Coker held a slight two-point advantage, 9-7, over Mount Olive early in the third set.
  • UMO took a 15-14 lead following an 8-5 run that included six kills and two Coker errors.
  • Following their called timeout, the Cobras went on a 6-3 rally to take a 20-18 lead that spanned a Trojan timeout.
  • Mount Olive fought back to tie the score five times, last at 27 all, before Coker put together a pair of points to win 29-27.


  • The fifth set opened with back-to-back service aces by the Cobras who took an early 6-3 lead.
  • Coker held a 12-9 lead following an even 6-6 run by the two teams as Mount Olive called a timeout to regroup.
  • UMO was only able to score two more points following the timeout while Coker scored the three need to take the fifth set 15-11 and the match 3-2.


  • Max Cristina had a career night with 14 kills on 26 attacks as the sophomore hit .462 on the evening.
  • Nicolas Laxar tallied 31 assists as the Trojans recorded 48 kills on the night.


Mount Olive wraps up their four-game road trip with a Conference Carolinas contest at Belmont Abbey on February 8. The Trojans and Crusaders take to the Wheeler Center for a 7 o'clock first serve.
