Clive McDonald

A former Olympian in the sport of bobsleigh and renowned track & field coach, Clive McDonald enters his first year as an assistant track & field coach at the University of Mount Olive in 2023.

McDonald joins the Trojans after serving as the assistant cross country/track & field coach at Fayetteville State University, while also working as the strength & conditioning coach over the last five seasons. During his tenure with the Broncos, he helped the program to a pair of Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor & Outdoor Championships (2020, 2022) while coaching four NCAA Division II All-Americans. McDonald worked primarily with the sprint, hurdle, and assisted multi-event athletes.  

While serving as the strength & conditioning coach, he implemented all pre-season, in-season, and post-season programs for the Olympic sports teams. McDonald adjusted coaching techniques to meet the needs of the student-athletes to maximize performance. He worked directly with four CIAA Champion teams, including women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's golf.  

As an Olympian, McDonald competed for the Jamaican Bobsleigh Team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He was also invited to the 2006 Torino Olympics in Italy. Coach McDonald coached seven national youth multi-event champions and four national junior representatives. He was a Jamaica national coach and led the Jamaica contingent to capture their first Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Age Group Championship in 2015. McDonald was a two-time Jamaica Corporate Area sprints and hurdles Coach of the Year in 2016-17     

McDonald served seven years as the Head Girls' Track & Field Coach at Excelsior High School in Jamaica from 2010-17. He coached two national high school 4x100-meter relay champions' and guided the program to school records in the 100-meter, 100-meter hurdles, 200-meters, and 4x100-meter relay. During his tenure at Excelsior High and Primary, McDonald trained 15 individual event champions and 7 individual event champions, respectively.  

He earned his bachelor's degree in health and physical education with a concentration in sport management from Fayetteville State University in 2022 and is currently pursuing his master's degree in business administration with a concentration in management at Fayetteville State.  

McDonald holds certifications from IAAF as a Level 1 Certified Coach, USTFCCCA Strength & Conditioning, and the American Coaching Academy (ACA).
