Kearns was named the Assistant Cheerleading Coach in August 2020.
Kearns joins Mount Olive while serving as the school counselor at New Hope Elementary School Chapel Hill, N.C. He started working with various teams across the country in 2010 when he was employed by Edge Cheer and Dance (National Cheerleading Association) as a camp instructor and choreographer. Kearns has experience in teaching and coaching at various levels, including several high schools and collegiate teams in and outside of North Carolina, as well as internationally at the all-star level in Finland.
"I am beyond excited to build upon my coaching and choreography career at the University of Mount Olive. I look forward to many great seasons with UMO, as Coach Fulcher and I are dedicated to continuing the excellence and growth of this cheerleading program," said Kearns.
Prior to completing his career with the National Cheerleading Association in 2018, Kearns served a stint as the head cheerleading coach at Knightdale High School for two years. While there he led the team to a GNRC 2nd-place finish, an NCHSAA top-10 finish, and GNRC Cheerleader of the year.
Kearns obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with a minor in Spanish from North Carolina State University in 2014. While at NC State cheered for the Wolfpack for four years and was a captain and MVP of the squad. He then went onto gain his Master of Arts in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Central University in 2020.
