How It Happened

  • Mount Olive saw the Bearcats of Lander take the game's first lead in the bottom of the third off two RBI-singles to put LU up 2-0.
  • The Trojans were unable to find a response until the fourth inning when Joe Mason belted a ball over the left field wall scoring Zack Smith to tie the game at two.
  • UMO was not done however in the inning as a Blake McLean two RBI-double and a Jon Cosme RBI-single put the visiting nine up 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
  • Lander answered in the bottom of the fourth with help of a Trojan error and drew the deficit to 5-3.
  • The scoring remained silent for the next four innings until an explosion in the ninth by UMO.
  • Mount Olive proceeded to push across an even dozen runs as Mason started the inning by forcing in a bases-loaded walk and concluded the scoring with a bases-clearing grand slam to secure the Trojans' win.
  • Lander did score one run in the final frame on a wild pitch but the massive comeback was not to be and UMO took the final game of the weekend 17-to-4.

  • Zack Burke (1-0) got the win in relief going two complete innings allowing a hit with four strikeouts and holding the Bearcats scoreless.
  • Joe Mason led the team with seven RBI going 2-for-5 with a walk and two home runs.
