Trojans Down Saint Augustine's 11-1

Cary, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive baseball team picked up an 11-1 win over Saint Augustine's University Tuesday afternoon in Cary, N.C. at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

How It Happened


  • Mount Olive struck first in the bottom of the first as lead-off man Trae Sweeting worked out a walk. Sweeting then scored the first run of the game off a Ricky Surum RBI-triple.
  • Surum came in to score on a David Mayo sacrifice fly for the first out of the inning.
  • Following a walk to Jason Smith and a base hit by Justin Lee, catcher Ben Connor cleared the bases with a three-run home run to right and UMO jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
  • Saint Augustine added a run to their tally, the only run for the Falcons in the bottom of the second.
  • Conner belted another home run in the third to extend Mount Olive's lead back to five. 
  • The Trojans went on to add runs in every inning after, except the sixth and eighth, on their way to securing an 11-1 victory.


  • Trey Pate (2-0) picked up the win on the hill for Mount Olive as he went five complete, allowing a single run, off five hits and struck out four.
  • Ben Connor led the Trojans offense as he was perfect at the plate in his four appearances with two home runs, a walk, and five RBI.

Mount Olive returns to action on Friday as the Trojans will take on archrival Barton College in a three-game series at Scarborough Field starting with a single nine inning game to open the series. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m.
