Mount Olive Takes Two From Limestone 7-4, 3-1

Joe Koehler went 2-for-2 with two RBI in game two to lead the University of Mount Olive to a double header wins 7-4, 3-1 against Limestone College Saturday night for Conference Carolinas baseball in Mount Olive, N.C.

Game One: Mount Olive 7 Limestone 4

In game one Mount Olive (15-3 Overall, 6-0 Conference Carolinas) was up against the rocks as Limestone (4-14, 0-7) got out to a quick start. Chris Scura led off the game with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kyle Booth doubled down the right field line to drive in the game's first run. Dan Smith followed up with a single to move Booth to third. Michael Newcomb brought home the final run of the inning with a single up the middle.

Mount Olive did respond down two early as Zak Orrison drew a lead-off walk. Orrison ended up at third after a groundout and a steal of third. With two away Rob Shipman was hit by a pitch and moved around to third on a Justin Manning RBI-down down the right field line. The next play Chris Leduc reached on a fielding error and two runs scored as the ball hit off the glove of the right fielder and trickled along the outfield wall.

In the bottom of the third up 3-2, the Trojans added another run off a groundout from Orrison.

The Saints fought back in the fourth with a lead-off home run by Logan Conley. Newcomb followed up with another long ball and Limestone tied the game up at four.

To start off the home half of the fifth DeAndre Allen doubled to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kilgore Gailmard drew a one out walk and was driven in off the bat of Jason Morozowski with a two RBI-double down the left field line.

Mount Olive added its final run in the seventh with a RBI-single by Shipman and the Trojans led 7-4.

The Trojan pitching staffed slammed the door in the ninth as Limestone went down in order and took game one.

Jose Serrano (2-1) was credited with the win in relief as he went five complete and gave up three hits and struck out 2.

Mark Burnside (0-2) picked up the loss with six runs, four earned, off four hits in four and a third innings pitched.

Game Two Mount Olive 3 Limestone 1

Mount Olive (16-3, 7-0) opened the game up as the Trojans got the first run of the game in the first. Orrison drew another first inning lead-off walk and moved to second on a failed pick-off attempt. Shipman drew a two out walk and Manning followed him with the third free pass of the inning. Koehler picked up his first RBI after he was plunked with the first pitch and Orrison scored.

Limestone (4-15, 0-8) picked up their only run of the game off a RBI-double to left center by Austin Marcellus.

The Trojans took the lead once again with a RBI-double by Tyler Farmer in the bottom of the third. Koehler drove in the last run of the game in the fifth with a RBI-single through the right side to bring in Morozowski.

Mount Olive starting pitcher Kodi Whitley finished his complete game with three strikeouts in the seventh to pick up the win for the Trojans.

Whitley (5-0) went the distance and allowed one run off eight hits and struck out seven.

Jameson McGrane (0-5) picked up the loss on the hill for Limestone. He went six complete giving up three runs off six hits and striking out five.

Mount Olive will finish off the three game series with a single game tomorrow at Scarborough Field. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
