No. 13 Trojans Score 29 Runs In Doubleheader Sweep At No. 16 Florida Southern

Jason Morozowski scored five runs and drove in four as nationally 13th-ranked University of Mount Olive notched a pair of six-run innings on its way to a 16-7 victory over No. 16 Florida Southern in game one of a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Lakeland, Fla. The Trojans completed the sweep with a 13-5 win in game two as Kilgore Gailmard and Rob Shipman had three runs batted in apiece.

The two wins extend Mount Olive's winning streak to seven and push Trojan head coach Carl Lancaster's career victory total to 987 as he nears the 1,000-win milestone.

In the opener, Mount Olive (8-1) scored two runs in the top of the first inning and broke the game open with six runs in the fourth. Morozowski capped the scoring with a three-run homer, his fifth of the season. The Trojans capitalized on two Florida Southern errors in the sixth to plate six more runs and extend the lead to 14-0.

Florida Southern (3-5) broke up Trojan starter Kodi Whitley's (2-0) shutout bid with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

In the second game, Shipman's first-inning two-run homer gave Mount Olive another quick 2-0 lead. In Mount Olive's six-run second inning, Gailmard tripled with the bases loaded and scored on Morozowski's double to extend the lead to 8-0. The Trojans built the lead to double figures at 13-3 with three runs in the top of the sixth on another rbi-double by Morozowski and a sacrifice fly by Shipman.

Gunnar Kines (2-0) struck out eight and walked one in six innings of the seven-inning game.

The two teams conclude their three-game series with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
