Trojans Roll Past Chowan 6-1 Behind Dominant Singles Sweep

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Chowan Hawks women's tennis 6-1 at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center, powered by a flawless showing in singles play.

Mount Olive (7-11) dropped the doubles point, but quickly flipped momentum once singles competition began—and never looked back.

The Trojans were dominant across the board, sweeping all six singles matches in convincing fashion. Leading the charge at the top of the lineup, Simone Szovan secured a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Nina Bernier followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position, while Victoria Calle cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Julie Jagiella continued the momentum with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4, and Alina Esser added another point with a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 5. Courtney Howell capped the sweep at No. 6 singles, battling to a 7-5, 6-2 victory to seal the match.

Despite falling behind early after doubles play, Mount Olive's depth and consistency in singles proved overwhelming, as the Trojans did not drop a single match and controlled play from start to finish.

With the win, Mount Olive builds momentum heading into the regular season finale against Ferrum tomorrow at 2 p.m.
