MOUNT OLIVE, — The Mount Olive men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Monday afternoon, sweeping in-state rival Barton 7–0 in Conference Carolinas action at home.
The Trojans set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with victories across all three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Kristoffer Dalbak and
Bram Poel earned a 6–4 win over Barton's Fredrik Foss and Nicola Bottelberghs.
Mount Olive followed with another tight victory at No. 2 as Rasmus Grindheim and
Niklas Gruenefeldt defeated Sean Ariel Maphosa and William Drake 7–5. The Trojans completed the doubles sweep when
Philip Peter Carstensen and
Snyder Pearson secured a 6–3 win over Diego Rodriguez and Juliann Starland at No. 3.
Mount Olive carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches to complete the shutout.
Dalbak battled at the top singles position, dropping the opening set before rallying for a 5–7, 6–2 lead before Bottelberghs retired in the third set. Poel controlled the No. 2 matchup with a convincing 6–1, 6–1 victory over Foss.
The Trojans dominated the middle of the lineup as Gruenefeldt rolled to a 6–0, 6–1 win over Rodriguez at No. 3 and Grindheim posted a 6-4, 7-5 result against Drake at No. 4.
At No. 5, Carstensen added another point for Mount Olive with a 6–2, 6–3 victory over Starland, while Hiroma Nishikata capped the day with an 8–0 win against Maphosa at No. 6.
The Trojans next competition sees them travel to Hilton Head, S.C. to take on Fairmont State on Thursday as they continue into spring break.
