Trojans Drop 6-1 Decision to Francis Marion in Conference Play

FLORENCE, S.C. — The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team battled through a tough conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6-1 to Francis Marion at the Kassab Courts.

The Trojans started strong in doubles play, highlighted by a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position from the duo of Nina Bernier and Simon Szovan. Despite the early success, Francis Marion edged out wins at No. 3 and a tightly contested 7-6 (7-2) decision at No. 2 to take the doubles point.

In singles action, Mount Olive was led by Bernier, who delivered a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot to account for the Trojans' point on the afternoon.

Several other matches proved competitive for the Trojans. Victoria Calle forced a third set at No. 2 before narrowly falling 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Julie Jagiella pushed her match to a super tiebreak at No. 4 after taking the opening set, ultimately coming up short in a 10-6 decision.

Mount Olive will look to get back in the win column as they host the Mountain Lions of Young Harris at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
