Trojans Rally for Walk-Off Win to Secure Series Sweep over Catawba

MOUNT OLIVE - Mount Olive softball extended its winning streak to four games on Tuesday afternoon, completing its second straight series sweep with a pair of victories over Catawba at home Tuesday afternoon.

The Trojans rallied late to take game one 6–5 before closing the day with a dominant 7–0 win in the finale.

In the opener, Mount Olive erased an early deficit and delivered the decisive blow in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Trailing 5–3 entering the final frame, the Trojans strung together timely hits to plate three runs and walk off with the 6–5 victory.

Mount Olive entered the seventh inning down 5–3 but quickly created an opportunity with no outs as McKenzie Millard singled and Liz Thome drew a walk. Emma King followed with an RBI single to left field, cutting the deficit to one and putting the tying run on base.

After a sacrifice bunt by Lane moved the runners into scoring position and a lineout recorded the second out, the Trojans were still down a run with two outs. Shortstop Emily Saw then delivered the decisive hit, lining a single into left-center that scored two runs and lifted Mount Olive to a 6–5 walk-off victory over the Indians in game one.

King led the offensive effort with a perfect 4-for-4 performance and two RBIs, while Saw drove in a pair of RBIs. Thome also reached base twice and scored, helping set the table for the late rally as Mount Olive finished with 11 hits in the win.

Emma Myatt garnered a win after pitching a complete game, allowing only five earned runs whilst collecting two strikeouts.

The Trojans carried that momentum into game two and controlled the contest from the start. Mount Olive jumped ahead with three runs in the first inning and never looked back on the way to a 7–0 victory.

Millard paced the lineup with a 4-for-4 day at the plate and two runs scored, while King continued her strong afternoon with a two-hit performance and three RBIs. Brittany Stephens finished with two RBIs, whilst Kaylee Cox and Thome each drove in one as part of a 13-hit attack for the Trojans.

In the circle, Mount Olive limited Catawba to just one hit while the defense played error-free behind an incredible pitching performance by Alex Steen. Steen earned her seventh victory of the season, marking her sixth consecutive winning decision over her last seven appearances, after pitching a complete game and striking out nine.

The Trojans will look to keep the momentum going into Saturday when they travel to Murfreesboro to face Chowan. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with game two set to follow at 3 p.m.
