Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 21 Lander in Season Opener

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team opened the 2026 spring season with a 7-0 setback to nationally ranked No. 21 Lander University on Saturday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Mount Olive showed flashes of competitiveness throughout the match, highlighted by a strong performance at No. 3 doubles where Niklas Gruenefeldt and Rasmus Grindheim earned a 6-2 victory to give the Trojans a point in doubles play. Lander claimed the doubles point after wins at the top two positions.

In singles action, the Trojans battled in several close matches against the Bearcats. Bram Poel pushed his opponent to three sets at No. 2 singles, while Luke Oosthuizen also went the distance at the No. 6 spot before narrowly falling in a third-set tiebreak. Despite the final score, Mount Olive gained valuable experience against a ranked opponent early in the season.

The Trojans will look to build on the effort as they continue nonconference play against Coker on Saturday, Feb. 14 in Hartsville, S.C.
