GREENVILLE, S.C. (Feb. 11) – After defeating a top-10 ranked wrestler at 197, University of Mount Olive sophomore
Raife Smart was chosen the Conference Carolinas Wrestler of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
A native of Stratford, Wisconsin, Smart captured a critical victory for the Trojans in the 197-weight class, as Mount Olive secured the No. 1 seed in the East Division and a share of the regular season crown with a 29-10 win over Newberry. On Thursday, Smart battled to a 5-2 decision to upset No. 8 ranked John Walker to help lead UMO to victory on Senior Day at Kornegay Arena.
Smart finished Conference Carolinas duals with an 8-1 record this season.
Mount Olive will face No. 2 seed King from the West Division in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. on the campus of Lander in Greenwood, South Carolina. The winner will advance to the championship match schedule for later that day.
