PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive wrestling team turned in a solid performance at the PJ Smith Pembroke Open, combining for multiple podium finishes and a series of bonus-point wins.
Ian Whitt led the lightweights with two technical falls at 125, while Ayden Arrington added a pair of pins. Jayvion Johnson and Jake Doherty each collected multiple victories, highlighted by a fall and a technical fall, respectively. Logan Tortual also scored a 20-3 tech fall at 141.
In the middleweights, Hunter Newell went unbeaten at 157 with three bonus-point wins, and Nathan Hampton (197) posted an 11-3 major decision and a 6-2 victory. Heavyweights Slade Calhoun and Noah Williams closed the day strong, combining for five wins, including Williams' 29-second pin.
The Trojans will return Nov. 13 against Lincoln Memorial and King in Ferrum, Va.
