No. 22 UMO continues streak in win over FMU, 5-2

MOUNT OLIVE (March 26) – In a nationally ranked match, the No. 22 ranked University of Mount Olive men's tennis team registered a 5-2 win over No. 28 Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center.

With the win, the Trojans extend their winning streak to an impressive 10 in a row and improve to 10-1 overall behind a 2-0 record in league action. Mount Olive has won four of the previous five meetings in the series against the Patriots. Meanwhile, Francis Marion drops to 6-6 this season with a 0-2 mark in conference play.

UMO secured the doubles point after winning two of the three matches on Tuesday. Senior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Kristoffer Dalbak posted a 6-3 win over Leonel Gonzalez and Martin Barbera in the first position. In the second doubles, sophomore Niklas Gruenefeldt and senior Adam Ibrahim fell by a score of 6-7 (3-7) to Austin Vienna and Luis Lopez Sarasa, while freshman Lenn Hoffmann and sophomore Bram Poel delivered a 6-3 victory against Pedro Caro and Harri Lloyd-Evans in the third slot.

In the singles portion, the Trojans tallied four of the possible six victories to claim a 5-2 win. In the first slot, de Oliveira dropped a 2-6, 4-6 decision to Barbera before Gruenefeldt won in three sets by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 over Lloyd-Evans in the second singles. In the third position, Dalbak battled to a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) win against Gonzalez before Poel rallied to a 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) 1-0 (10-6) victory versus Lopez Sarasa in the fourth slot. Sophomore Kabir Chhabria posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Carlson Lim in fifth singles, while Ibrahim fell by a 6-1, 5-7, 0-1 (7-10) against Adam Ernberg in the sixth position.

Mount Olive will return to action on Monday, April 1, for an exhibition match against NC Wesleyan, starting at 2 p.m.
