GREENWOOD, S.C. (Dec. 1) – After competing in three duals at the Carolina Clash hosted by Lander, the University of Mount Olive men's wrestling program defeated Salem and suffered a pair of ranked losses on Sunday.

With the results, the Trojans stand at 4-2 overall in dual meets while moving to 3-1 in league action after facing Lander in a Conference Carolinas bout.

Against Salem, redshirt junior Christian Decatur earned a first-round fall over Devin Fowler at 125 before freshman Eli Pendergrass received a forfeit in the 133-weight class to build a 12-0 advantage. The Tigers answered with a fall at 141 before the Trojans rallied off three straight victories to take a significant 27-6 lead. Freshman Dylan Pepin (149) delivered a dominant 16-0 tech fall versus Seth Holt while No. 13 ranked Jake Nicolosi posted an 11-0 major decision in the 157-weight class against Seth Thomas. Freshman Brent Nicolosi (165) would receive a forfeit before Salem secured a win by a 10-4 decision at 174. Mount Olive sealed the dual meet with three additional victories including a pair of forfeits and a win by junior Raife Smart against Clayton Downs via a quick 20-second fall, 45-9.

Against Lander, fifth-year Lens Mathurin produced an incredible comeback down 14-2 in the second round to eventually secure a 21-15 win over Oren Decker at 125. The Bearcats countered with three consecutive wins to establish a 14-3 advantage, but J. Nicolosi (157) closed the gap with a first-round pin over Lucas Crosby. In the top performance of the day, B. Nicolosi defeated No. 1 ranked and defending national champion David Hunsberger by a 6-5 decision in the 165-weight class. With Lander ahead 14-12, the Bearcats captured wins in three of the final four matches, as redshirt senior Colby Teague earned a 7-1 decision at 184 versus Hunter Jones.

Against Glenville State, Decatur started the match with a fall over Cameron Fentress in the 125-weight class before the Pioneers rattled off three wins to establish a 14-6 lead. At 157 in a ranked bout, J. Nicolosi defeated No. 15 Loranzo Rajaonarivelo in a battle via a 5-2 decision. In the next match, B. Nicolosi secured a second-ranked win over No. 6 Guy Deleonardis with a 2-1 decision at 165 to cut the deficit to 14-12. Glenville State claimed the final four matches to earn a 34-12 win.

Mount Olive returns to Kornegay Arena on Sunday, Dec. 8, for the Trojan Duals set to start at 1 p.m.
