MOUNT OLIVE (Feb. 19) – Despite sweeping the doubles session on Sunday afternoon, the Trojans suffered a 4-3 loss to North Carolina A&T State in a non-conference dual match at John Neal Walker Tennis Center.
With the loss, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis team falls to 2-7 this season. UMO has four additional non-conference duals over the next three weeks ahead of league play. Meanwhile, North Carolina A&T State improves to 2-0 in dual matches this spring.
The Trojans secured the doubles points after sweeping all three matches, including a forfeit at the third position. Senior

Nele Weber registered their fifth-straight victory in the first slot with a 6-3 win over Cielo Tapia-Cruz and Nuria Sanz. At second doubles, senior

Oriana Izarra improved to 6-2 as a team in a 6-4 victory against Lana Caculovic and Asima Sazan.
North Carolina A&T State escaped with the 4-3 win after claiming four of the six singles matches despite forfeiting the sixth position. Montserrat fell in a back-and-forth contest to Caculovic by a 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5 margin at first singles. Voloshyna followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) loss in the second slot against Tapia-Cruz before Izarra was defeated by a score of 6-4, 6-3 versus Sanz in the third position. At fourth singles, Weber improved to 5-3 after winning by a 6-2, 6-2 margin against Sazan. Freshman
Laura Servien dropped a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) decision in a battle versus Nour Gurblaoui in the fifth slot, while UMO received a win via forfeit in the sixth position.
The Trojans return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 25, when they host Catawba in the John Neal Walker Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
