Trojans drop match at Campbell, 6-1

UMO secures the doubles points against Campbell; UMO hosts home-opener vs. Wingate this weekend

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Feb. 14) – Despite claiming the doubles point, the Trojans fell by a 6-1 margin at Campbell on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.

With the loss, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis drops to 3-3 overall after opening the spring campaign with five-straight road matches. It marks the first meeting between the sides in recent program history. Meanwhile, Campbell improves to 3-3 this season with victories over a pair of Conference Carolinas programs.

The Trojans secured the point during the doubles session after winning the first and third positions. Junior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Daniel Hammond tallied a 6-4 win at first doubles over Tomas Balazi and Leon Petko. At the second slot, juniors Adam Ibrahim and Diego Ortega Cadahia dropped a 6-2 match against Damien Nezar and Benjamin Maes, while sophomore Elios Briand and freshman Bram Poel battled to a 7-6 (9-7) victory in the third position versus Lukas Steffen and Gustavs Lukstins.

The Camels completed the match victory by winning all six singles matches, including five in straight sets. de Oliveira suffered a 6-1, 6-2 loss at first singles to Nezar before Hammond dropped a 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 decision against Steffen in the second slot. Ibrahim fell by a 6-2, 6-1 count at the third position to Maes, while senior Israel Rodriguez Rojas was dealt a 6-4, 6-4 loss by Gustavs at fourth singles. Poel suffered a 6-1, 6-2 defeat against Noe Macquart in the fifth slot. In the sixth position, freshman Kabir Chhabria closed out singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Balazi.

Mount Olive returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 18, when it hosts Wingate for the spring home-opener at John Neal Walker Tennis Center, starting at 1 p.m.
