CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team split road games against Queens University (NC) and Southern New Hampshire 3-2/6-2 Sunday afternoon. UMO now improves to 7-1 on the season. Mount Olive fell to Queens to start the afternoon and ended the day with a win against SNHU.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
Mount Olive just as they have done for most of the beginning of the season struck first in the opening frame. A sacrifice fly from
Kylie Emanuele scored
Emma Mooney and the Trojans led 1-0.
Queens was held off the board until the bottom of the third when an RBI single tied the game. Emanuele lifted the Trojans once more with a solo home run to left pushing UMO back a head 2-1.
Single runs in the sixth and seventh for the Royals sealed the win as Queens walked off in the bottom of the seventh, 3-2.
TROJAN LEADERS
Emanuele had one hits, two RBI, and a home run to lead UMO.
Hannah Killough (5-1) went the distance allowing all three runs off four hits and five strikeouts.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
The Trojans for the first time this season were held without a run in the first four innings. Southern New Hampshire cashed in on a solo home run to take the game's first lead in the top of the fourth.Â
Mount Olive finally cracked into the book in the fifth four runs crossed the plate. Two via a
Megan Bryant RBI-double, one on a Courtlynn Coony RBI-single, and the final on
Ashley Mick bases loaded fielder's choice.
Down 4-1 the Penmen pushed a run home in the sixth, but that would be the final run as UMO countered with a two-run home run from
Carly Curcio in the bottom half and the Trojans held the 6-2 win.Â
TROJAN LEADERS
Bryant and Curcio led the offense in game two, both with two RBI in the contest.
Lauren King (4-0) went the complete game two runs off four hits with eight strikeouts.
ON DECK
The Trojans finally open up at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field Thursday, February 24Â at 2 p.m. against regional rival Wingate University.
