SUMTER, S.C. -No. 1 Flying Fleet of Erskine College defeated No. 2 Mount Olive on Sunday afternoon in the finals of the Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Championship at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
MATCH INFORMATION
The Flying Fleet held the early lead after the doubles round winning doubles 2 and 3. UMO then won three singles sets as Erskine's Faith Wright clinched the No. 4 match set to help the Flying Fleet take home the 4-3 victory and capture the Conference Carolinas Championship title.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
No. 1 Liza Voloshyna/Nele Weber made quick work of their opponents winning 6-0. No. 2 Ingrid Montero/Deike Schipper and No.3 Arianna Orozco/Bipasha Mehn both fought hard but fell 6-0 and 7(7)-6(4) as Erskine earned the doubles point.
In singles action, UMO won the No. 2, 5, and 6 bouts while the Flying Fleet took the 1, 3, and 4 win, to split the singles games.
Emma Bentz won at No.1 over UMO's Liza Voloshyna in three sets (6-2,7(7)-6(5),6-0). Ingrid Montero, who played in the No. 2 singles wins over Marie Guillaume in with a clean sweep (6-3,6-1) to earn the first point for the Trojans. Nele Weber lost in the No. 3 singles match (6-3,6-0). No. 5 Arianna Orozco and No. 6 Deike Schipper both won (6-4,0-6,6-3) and (3-4, WR-0). Lastly, No. 4 Ece Yuksel had a tough battle but fought hard as Erskine Faith Wright clinched the match point for Flying Fleet in three sets (6-4,6-0,6-3) to take home the 4-3 win.
