DUNCAN, S.C. - The Trojans returned to action in day two of the Conference Carolinas Championship, Friday afternoon. Mount Olive defeated North Greenville University in eight innings, 5-4, improving to 2-0 in the double elimination tournament.
GAME INFORMATION
Both starting pitchers, including
Mallory Ratcliff, were rock steady through the first two innings, each only allowing one hit. In the top of the third Mount Olive got the scoring started.
Megan Bryant,
Courtlynn Cooney, and Casandra Lassiter all found their way on base to begin the inning.
Kylie Emanuele then came to bat, and brought home both Bryant and Cooney, giving the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Emanuele found herself on third base, eventually scoring on a passed ball, putting the Trojans up 3-0. Wanting to keep the game tight, North Greenville responded in the bottom of the third inning. With two runners on base, the Crusaders' Hutto singled through the left side, scoring one. After a walk, Koon came to the plate and delivered with a two-run single to right center, tying the game at three apiece.Â
After four innings of being held scoreless, and now in extra innings, the Trojans offense was the first to regain momentum. In the top of the eighth inning, with
Madison Morgan on base,
Cana Shrock smacked a double to left field, scoring Morgan and giving the Trojans a 4-3 lead. One batter later,
Ashlyn Porter pinch-hit for
Hannah Burress. Porter singled through the left side, then was pinched-run for by
Kyndal Woodard. After an error by the catcher, Shrock sped home, crossing the plate and giving the Trojans a 5-3 lead. Looking to close the game down, Ratcliff did just that. After allowing a runner on base, she got a double play and fly-out to end the game and give the Trojans a 5-4 win.Â
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the top of the eighth inning. Entering extra innings tied at three, the Trojans offense scored two crucial runs, giving them a 5-3 lead. Eventually winning in the bottom of the eighth inning, 5-4.

With their win today, the Trojans advance in the double elimination championship with two wins. They return to action Sunday, April 25th, at 2 p.m. against Emmanuel College.Â
