Trojans Sweep Southern Wesleyan on Senior Day

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Trojans returned to Nancy Chapman Cassell Field Saturday afternoon for Senior Day. The Trojans swept Southern Wesleyan winning, 3-1 and 4-1, respectively.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to today's games, the Trojans Softball team honored three Senior members of their team. Including Mallory Ratcliff, Alexis Oliver, and team manager Dawson Tippett. Each individual was presented with a framed jersey.

GAME ONE INFORMATION
The Warriors got two runners on base to begin the game but was left stranded by starting pitcher, Hailey Kessinger. Similar to the Warriors first inning, the Trojans got two runners on when Courtlynn Cooney and Megan Bryant both singled. Kylie Emanuele brought Cooney home courtesy of a SAC fly to right field. Giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead after one inning.

The Warriors answered back in the top of the second inning. With a runner on second base, Emma Jo Wolfe singled with a bunt, advancing the runner to third base. An errant throw by Oliver on an attempted steal of second base saw the Warriors tie the game at one apiece when the runner on third ran home. Similar to the first inning, the Trojans responded immediately in the bottom of the inning. Ashlyn Porter got on base with a single, followed by Alexis Oliver singling. Rayanna Koch earned a walk to load the bases. Madison Morgan scored pinch runner Breanna Voelker by hitting a SAC fly to center field, giving the Trojans a 2-1 lead. One batter later Megan Bryant sent a shot up the middle, scoring Koch and putting the Trojans up 3-1. This was all the Trojans needed, going on to win, 3-1.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the bottom of the second inning. With the game tied at one, Madison Morgan and Megan Bryant each batted in a run, taking the lead and eventually the final, 3-1.

Megan Bryant had two hits and an RBI in game one.

WARRIORS LEADERS
Lydia Clanton had three hits.

GAME TWO INFORMATION
With two runners on and two outs, starting pitcher Mallory Ratcliff left them stranded, getting a strikeout for the third out of the inning. In the bottom of the first inning Courtlynn Cooney got on base with a bunt. Then stealing second and eventually scoring on a passed ball, giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead.Kylie Emanuele came to bat and scored two more Trojans with a shot to center field. Giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead through one inning. 

The Warriors got their first run across in the top of the fourth inning. Cutting the defecit to two, 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth inning Emanuele added another RBI, putting the Trojans back up by three, 4-1. Going on to win by that score through solid pitching from Ratcliff. 

KEY MOMENT
In the bottom of the first inning the Trojans offense flexed their muscle. Scoring three runs, and never looking back. Going on to win, 4-1.

Kylie Emanuele collected three RBI on two hits.

WARRIORS LEADERS
Megan New had two hits in game two.

ON DECK
The Trojans return to action at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field next Tuesday, April 13th, hosting a doubleheader against Coker University. Action gets underway at 3pm.
