Golf Practice Facility
About "The Practice Shack"
The UMO Golf teams fund raised for an indoor practice facility and construction began in March of 2015. The “Practice Shack” (an ode to the movie Caddie Shack) was completed in April. The facility is 600 sqft and features an air conditioned and heated space for the Mount Olive golf teams.
Along with the artificial turf surface, the shack has areas in which golfers can practice putting and hitting into nets or from inside the facility out to the open grass area adjacent to the Practice Shack. Inside the facility, the teams have the ability to monitor their swings and get real time analysis with the V1 Sports Motion Analysis and Digital Media system. The system allows for the coaching staff and golfers to make adjustments to their swing, see their tendencies, and compare their swings to real PGA/WPGA players.
Along with the V1 software, the team is using a launch monitor, GC2 by Foresight Sports, to measure ball flight, spin rates, and ball dispersion. For working on their putting, the team has added the TOMI Putting System which captures and analyzes the basic mechanics of putting including alignment, swing path, alignment at impact, the spot of impact, and rhythm.
The practice shack also includes numerous teaching aids for putting, short game, and full swings. Players also have the capabilities to change the grips on their clubs within the facility. Many of the players are international and the golf facility offers wifi while practicing for Skype calls from home.
