Three Trojans Named All-Conference Carolinas

Mount Olive, N.C.---Three members of the University of Mount Olive women's tennis team received Conference Carolinas All-Conference honors,  it was announced at Thursday's Conference Carolinas Men's and Women's Tennis Tournament banquet.

Senior Alejandra Hernandez and sophomore Julie Gonzalez-Rodriguez were named first-team All-Conference Carolinas, while senior Stella Di Michele was named second-team All-Conference Carolinas. Gonzalez-Rodriguez and Di Michelle were also named to the All-Conference Doubles team.

Hernandez earns her second All-Conference Carolinas award after amassing a 10-1 record at No. 3 singles in Conference Carolinas action in 2017. The Mexico City, Mexico native's first all-conference award came in 2015 as Hernandez captured second-team honors.

A sophomore from Mechelen, Belgium, Gonzalez-Rodriguez impressed in her first season of collegiate tennis competition. Gonzalez-Rodriguez grabbed her first all-conference honor after going 10-1 at No. 2 singles for the Trojans.

Di Michele captured her second straight all-conference award after recording a 7-4 mark at No. 1 singles for UMO.

Di Michele and Gonzalez-Rodriguez also earned all-conference doubles honors as the duo went 10-1 in Conference Carolinas competition at No. 1 doubles.

The Trojans' three all-conference singles honorees are tied for the most by any Conference Carolinas team over the two all-conference singles teams this year.

Fifth-seeded UMO opens the 2017 Conference Carolinas Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday at Noon against fourth-seeded Erskine College at the Sumter Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
