Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's soccer team defeated the Lions of Lincoln University 8-0 in the season opener at Amon Field in non-conference action Thursday afternoon. Raven Withaar, with four goals in today's match, tied for second in the UMO women's soccer records of goals scored in a game.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

First Half

  • Mount Olive dominated the entire match scoring five of their eight goals in the first half, including a hat trick by Raven Withaar
  • Jaelyn Brown got things going in the 18th minute as she scored off a rebounded save from inside the keepers box for the goal.
  • Withaar scored her first goal of the game six minutes later off a pass from Kaylee Larson.
  • Withaar's second goal of the match followed three minutes later in the 27th minute putting the Trojans ahead 3-0 with 18 minutes remaining in the half.
  • Vivian Fernandez joined the scoring party with a goal in the 39th minute off an assisted pass from Withaar.
  • The opening half finished with Withaar's third goal of the match as she scored off the pass in from Kiki Spence, that rolled off the fingertips of the Lincoln keeper, with four minutes remaining in the half.

Second Half

  • Aimee Darrow started the second half off with a goal from 10 meters out in the center of the box to give the Trojans their sixth goal of the day. Darrow corralled a pass in from Brown for the score.
  • The seventh goal was elusive as it came in the 71st minute, 20 minutes after the sixth goal was scored. Kendall Blaine earned the credit for goal number seven as she wrangled in a rebound off the post to sneak the ball past the keeper.
  • Withaar summed up the scoring with seven minutes remaining in the match as she shook the keeper outside the six-meter box to score on an open net.

  • Raven Withaar had a great season opener as she scored four goals, three in the first half, to tie for second in the UMO women's soccer records of goals scored in a game.
