Trojans Take 2-0 Victory On Senior Day - Extend Unbeaten Streak To Six

Ellie Barnes put the University of Mount Olive ahead to stay in the first period as the Trojans took a 2-0 win over Lees-McRae College on Senior Day at Amon Field in Conference Carolinas women's soccer. Niza Vera added the final goal in the 68th minute to extend the Trojans' unbeaten streak to six

Mount Olive (7-3-2 Overall, 6-1-2 Conference Carolinas) picked up the game's first goal off a Lees-McRae (4-8, 2-5) foul resulting in a free kick for the Trojans. Nichole Poppe crossed the free kick to Barnes who found the back of the net in the 30th minute. Vera added an insurance goal midway through the second half that resulted in the final goal of the match. 

The Trojans were able to outshoot the Bobcats in the first half despite allowing more corner kicks to the opposition. Kelsey Cirrito (1-0) and Stephanie McCoy split the game in goal for Mount Olive. Cirrito was credited with her first win of the season.

The match was also the final home match for Kelsey Cirrito, Christine Rocchio, Lauren Power, Madeline Russell, Hope Perry, Jen Sickles, Maddy Robak, Nichole Poppe, and Sydney Nelson. The seniors were recognized prior to kickoff.

Mount Olive will travel to UNC Pembroke Wednesday to play the Braves in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
