No. 17 Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 11 Queens 9-8

No. 17 University of Mount Olive fell to No. 11 Queens University (N.C.) 9-8 in non-conference women's lacrosse Thursday afternoon from Amon Field. Mount Olive was ahead of Queens 5-3 in the first half, but the Royals out-scored the Trojans in the second half 6-3 to take the game.

Mount Olive (10-5) had a chance to tie the game with under a minute to play, however, the Trojans' shot hit the post of the goal. The Trojans picked up the rebound off the post and tried to find the back of the net again. The shot was snagged by the Royals keeper and Mount Olive was not allowed another shot in the game.

Riann Daziel started off the Trojans with the game's first goal. Daziel was fouled and on the restart beat the Queens' keeper for the goal. Queens and Mount Olive exchanged the next two goals, until the Royals put in two straight goals with under thirteen minutes to play in the first half. Down 3-2, Daziel went on a run of her own scoring the final three goals of the opening half and Mount Olive led 5-3.

The second half was all Queens as the Royals trailed 7-4, following a Caitlin Sabadish goal with 20:22 remaining. Hanna Scott scored with 15:51 and sparked a 3-0 run by Queens and tied the game at seven.

Candace Corkin gave Mount Olive back the lead with 7:57 with an unassisted goal. Queens fought back and scored two straight goals, the final goal coming off a free position attempt.

Mount Olive was led by Daziel's team high five goals. Corkin, Sabadish, and Saffron Snethen all added one goal apiece.

Next, Mount Olive will host Erskine College Saturday April 14 at 4 p.m. The match will also be senior day for Maddy Biggar, Caley Breese, Candace Corkin, Riann Daziel, Caitlin Gore, Caity Hamilton, Hannah Knight, Alysha Kulka, Kristen McGovern, Kayla Mergl, Caitlin Sabadish, Sarah Snell, and ClaireWigler.
