Trojans Finish Fifth Out Of 13 Teams At Armstrong Pirate Women's Golf Invitational

University of Mount Olive tied for the lowest team score of the final round as the Trojans moved up two spots to finish fifth out of 13 teams at the Armstrong Pirate Women's Golf Invitational at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga. The Trojans carded a team score of 304 Tuesday to wrap up the 54-hole tournament.

All four Trojan golfers shot in the 70's Tuesday. Julie Loennechen finished seventh out of 71 golfers with a 77-78-76--231, while Paula Guridi tied for 15th with a 77-81-78--236.

Julia Kaeding carded the Trojans' lowest single-round score of the tournament Tuesday with a 1-over-par 73. She tied for 22nd with an 85-81-73--239. Anne Barboteau tied for 32nd with an 87-83-77--247.

Tournament host and nationally 22nd-ranked Armstrong State matched the Trojans' 304 in the final round and won the tournament. Nationally 24th-ranked West Georgia was second, while 26th-ranked UNC Pembroke shot 304 Tuesday and finished third. All four teams that finished ahead of Mount Olive are ranked in the Golfstat Division II National Top 40.

Mount Olive returns to action next week as the Trojans travel to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to compete in the Hilton Head Lakes Invitational, hosted by Pfeiffer University. The tournament begins Monday and concludes Tuesday.
