Trojans Fall To Hawks Of Chowan In Non-Conference Action

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell 67-55 to the Hawks of Chowan University on Wednesday night in Murfreesboro, N.C. Jada Bacchus came up three points shy of tying her career-high 28 points, as she led all players with 25 points on the night.

FIRST QUARTER

  • A layup from freshman guard Azariah Fields put the Trojans on the scoreboard first 13 seconds into the opened quarter.
  • At the 6:41 mark in the opening quarter Makayla Nichols scored a three-pointer to put UMO up one-point, 5-4.
  • Chowan took a two-point, 7-5 lead, following a three-pointer of their own, but another Nichols three and a Jada Bacchus layup gave Mount Olive an 11-7 lead with 4:11 to play.
  • Bacchus put up another layup to put UMO up 13-7, but CU closed out the first quarter with a 6-0 run to enter the second ten minutes knotted up at 13 all.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The Hawks controlled the opening four minutes of the second quarter scoring 10 straight points to take a 23-13 lead.
  • Mount Olive scored ten points to cut the Chowan lead to eight points 31-23 with 2:11 left in the half.
  • Both teams scored a pair of points before time ran out as Chowan held a 33-25 lead at halftime.

THIRD QUARTER

  • A 6-4 run by CU put the Hawks back ahead by 10 points, 39-29, four minutes into the third quarter.
  • Chowan managed to hold on to a ten point lead until a Teliyah Owens layup pulled Mount Olive within seven points, 48-41, with 2:02 to play.
  • One last Hawk basket before the quarter ended put Chowan ahead 50-41 with ten minutes left in regulation.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Mount Olive scored the first basket of the fourth quarter but Chowan put up six quick points to take a 13 point, 56-43, lead.
  • The Trojans scored 12 points the remainder of the fourth quarter but could not catch the Hawks who tallied 11 points in the final minutes to win the game 67-55.

KEY STATS

  • Jada Bacchus scored 25 points coming up three points shy of tying her career-high 28 points. Bacchus also tallied 13 rebounds, nine defensive, for her first double-double of the season.
