Women's Basketball Travels To Chapel Hill For Exhibition Game

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team wraps up their pre-season schedule with a road exhibition game at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill on Monday night at 6 p.m.

During the 2016-17 season, UMO went 22-7 overall and 18-4 in Conference Carolinas action. The Trojans finished third in the conference standings behind Limestone and King who went 21-1 and 19-3 against conference competition. Mount Olive's season concluded in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas women's basketball tournament to the eventual champions of King University 78-67.

Four new players have joined the UMO women's basketball team to compliment the 10 returners from last years team. Jaylyn Copeland, Tamira Knuckles, Teliyah Owens and Kelly Post will all make their way into the Trojans rotation as the newest members of the team.

Returning this season are a couple of All-Conference award winners in Felecity Havens (1st-team) and Ni'Ya Styles (3rd-team) who are the Trojans players to watch for the 2017-18. 

Four players on the current roster have experience playing against the Tar Heels of UNC. Ni'Ya Styles, Tommarah Harris, Rachel Fehl and Jada Bacchus all saw action in the 99-45 loss two years ago at Carmichael Arena. Harris led the Trojans with 14 points as she shot 50% from the field.

The Trojans open their season on the road at Lenior-Rhyne as they take on the Indians of Catawba on Friday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. in Hickory, N.C.
