CENTRAL, S.C. - The Mount Olive softball team lost both games in the doubleheader against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field in Central, S.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Charlene Thompson started things off with a bang hitting a triple to right field putting herself in great scoring position for her teammates.
  • Amber Elliott laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt grounding out to the pitcher and scoring Thompson from third to get UMO a 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
  • Southern Wesleyan responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Neither team scored in the second inning and SWU added two more runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to get out to a 6-1 lead.
  • The Warriors added one run each in the bottom halves of the fifth and sixth innings and kept UMO off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh to win game one 8-1.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • UMO again found a run in the top of the first inning to get the first score of the game. Charlene Thompson led off with a single and advanced to second on the throw to the infield.
  • Amber Elliott advanced Thompson to third on a groundout to the second baseman and the senior right fielder came home on a wild pitch to score the opening run.
  • The Warriors scored a tying run in the bottom half of the first inning as a double scored the runner from second.
  • The Trojans reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth inning putting up a pair of runs on the board as Megan Bryant and Hannah Burress both crossed home plate.
  • SWU scored a single run in the bottom half of the inning and added one run each in the bottoms of the fifth and sixth while keeping the Trojans from scoring again to take game two 4-3 and complete the sweep.

KEY STATS

  • Amber Parker tallied the lone RBI of game two while scoring the two runs in the fourth inning. One run was the product of an error and therefore not an RBI.
