Mount Olive, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team swept Fayetteville State University, 4-0 and 6-5 (8 innings), in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday evening in Mount Olive, N.C.

  • UMO scored first in the bottom of the first as junior Anna Ingram flied out to right field scoring freshman Kelsey Hayes and sending sophomore Callie Ferrell home after a Bronco throwing error to put the Trojans ahead 2-0.
  • The Trojans added a run in the bottom of the third as Ferrell crossed home again on another throwing error by Fayetteville State.
  • Mount Olive added a final insurance run in the fifth as Hayes crossed home after junior Kayla Allen reached on a Bronco throwing error as UMO captured the 4-0 victory.


  • In the circle, junior Kylie Ward (W: 6-6) earned the victory, pitching a complete seven-inning shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out four.
  • Senior Caitlin Ewers led the way with two hits for the Trojans, while Ferrell scored a pair of runs, and Ingram recorded the lone RBI.


  • To open the second game, the Trojans scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Ferrell and a RBI base-hit by Ingram.
  • The Broncos pushed ahead with a two-out rally in the top of the sixth as Fayetteville State scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Mount Olive responded in the bottom half of the sixth with two runs scored on a Bronco fielding error that tied the game at four.
  • In the top of the eighth, Fayetteville State retook the lead at 5-4 with a RBI double to left field.
  • With two outs and runners on second and third, UMO tied the game at five on a wild pitch by the Broncos.
  • Junior Kristin Power came to the plate later in the inning and delivered the walk-off win for the Trojans with a RBI single through the left side that scored senior Danielle Myers and gave UMO the 6-5 victory in eight innings.


  • UMO recorded nine hits in the win with Ferrell, Power, and Thompson all tallying a pair of hits.
  • Freshman Emily Chaisson (W: 10-10) earned her 10th win of the season, pitching a complete eight innings, allowing four earned runs on nine hits, striking out four.
