Gaffney, S.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team dropped a doubleheader to No. 24 Limestone College, 1-0 and 4-2, on Saturday afternoon in Gaffney, S.C.

GAME ONE

  • Limestone struck first in the bottom of the first on a RBI double that put the Saints ahead 1-0.
  • The Trojans threatened in the top of the fourth with runners on first and second with two outs, but UMO could not push a run across.
  • The opportunities continued for UMO as the Trojans loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fifth, but Limestone slammed the door and recorded the third out.
  • In the top of the seventh, UMO had runners on first and second with just one out, but once again, the Saints got out of the jam and recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.

KEY STATS GAME 1

  • In the circle, junior Kylie Ward (L: 4-6) pitched six innings, allowing just one run on three hits in the loss.
  • The Trojans recorded just three hits in the first game with junior Kristin Power leading the way with two hits.

GAME TWO

  • In the top of the first, the Trojans got a pair of base hits, but could not muster a run.
  • Limestone got on the board first in the bottom of the third with two extra base hits that each scored a run to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage.
  • UMO responded with a run in the top of the fourth as senior JenniBeth Burge scored on an error by the Saints.
  • Limestone pushed two runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase its lead to 4-1.
  • The Trojans trimmed Limestone's lead to 4-2 in the sixth as Power flied out to center field sending freshman Mikayla Koch home.
  • In UMO's final opportunity in the top of the seventh, sophomore Callie Ferrell led off the inning with a single and junior Kayla Allen followed with a single of her own, but UMO could not advance them as Limestone earned the 4-2 win.

KEY STATS GAME 2

  • UMO tallied eight hits in the loss with Ferrell leading the way with two.
  • Freshman Emily Chaisson (L: 8-10) allowed four runs on six hits in the loss.
