Mount Olive Defeats Barton 4-3 In Men's Tennis Action

WILSON, N.C. - The Mount Olive men's tennis team defeated the Bulldogs of Barton College 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's tennis action at the Barton College Tennis Courts in Wilson, N.C.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • Much like the women's match the Barton men's team took a 1-0 lead into the singles round after going 2-1 in the doubles matches.
  • Armando Ferreira and Milosh Petrovic picked up a 6-3 win over the No. 1 Bulldog duo.
  • The Trojans won four of the six singles matches to come from behind and defeat the Bulldogs 4-3 in conference action.
  • Ferreira quickly got things started with a win at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2. 
  • Barton reclaimed a 2-1 lead after winning the No. 2 singles bout, but Mount Olive won singles three, four and five to tie and take the lead in the match points 4-2.
  • Petrovic won the No. 3 flight 6-2, 6-1, while Victor Nunez, who played No. 4, won 6-3, 7-5.
  • Pablo Safont Ferrer clinched the match with a three-set, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, win at singles No. 5, securing the 4-3 win for UMO.

Mount Olive returns to action this weekend as the Trojans return to the John Neal Walker Tennis Center to host a pair of Conference Carolinas opponents. The Crusaders of North Greenville take on UMO on Friday, April 12, at 2 p.m., while the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan come to town on Saturday, April 13, for an 11 a.m. match.
