Nationally 40th-Ranked Men's Tennis Defeats Belmont Abbey 6-3

Martin Moser and Yannic Stark posted straight-set singles wins and combined for a doubles victory as nationally 40th-ranked University of Mount Olive defeated Belmont Abbey College 6-3 in Conference Carolinas men's tennis Friday at Walker Tennis Center. The match was the Trojans' home opener.

Mount Olive (4-1 overall, 3-0 Conference Carolinas) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Moser and Stark won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles, while Jose Luis Cortijos and Martim Sousa teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Belmont Abbey (2-5, 0-2) rallied with wins at the top two singles flights.

Moser won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to even the match and Sousa posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles to put the Trojans ahead to stay. Stark won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Jacob Clarke won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans play host to Chowan University in a non-conference match-up. Match time is 2 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
