Kevin Williams Lopez scored a goal in the final five minutes but University of Mount Olive was not able to complete the comeback as the Trojans fell to USC Aiken 2-1 in non-conference men's soccer at Amon Field Tuesday afternoon. Mount Olive had a last second corner kick but the service did not find the head of a Trojan.
Mount Olive (7-5) allowed USC Aiken (4-3-1) to score first after a Pacer was shoved near the goal drawing a penalty kick in the 7th minute. Andre Simmond lined up and went to his right and beat the diving Trojan keeper for the game's opening goal.
The Pacers in the 85th minute looked to knock in the final dagger as Jarrel Smalls beat the keeper after a timely pass from Jordan Misiri on the goal line.
Kevin Williams Lopez did not allow the Trojans to be shut out as he took a shot from the 15 foot box in the 88th minute and found the net to draw within one. Mount Olive's offensive picked up the tempo in the final two minute. The Trojans had one chance in the final seconds to find the equalizer on a corner kick with 10 seconds left but were unable to find the back of the net.
Mount Olive will remain home as the Trojans will host Lees-McRae on Saturday October 17. The match is the final home contest and Senior day for the Trojans.
