University of Mount Olive suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Catawba 3-0 in non-conference men's soccer Wednesday at Salisbury, N.C. All three goals came in the second half.
Mount Olive (2-1-2) outshot Catawba 3-2 in a scoreless first half. The Trojans had a scoring opportunity midway through the half on a pair of shot attempts by Kevin Williams Lopez two minutes apart, the second coming off of a corner kick.
Catawba (2-3-0) broke the deadlock in the 59th minute on a goal by Kenny Bonilla. Brian Woulf, who assisted on the first goal, scored a goal of his own in the 70th minute to extend the Indians' lead to 2-0.
Mount Olive had four of its six corner kicks in the second half, including a pair of corner kicks in the 82nd minute. Bright Eto's service found Macon Watkins for a header from just in front of the right post, but the ball hit the crossbar. Catawba went on to add a goal with 23 seconds left in the match.
Mount Olive opens Conference Carolinas action Saturday as the Trojans play host to first-year conference member Emmanuel in a men's and women's soccer doubleheader at Amon Field. The women's match kicks off at 1 p.m., followed by the men's match at 4 p.m.
