No. 15 Trojans Down Florida Southern 12-8

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The 15th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated the Mocs of Florida Southern College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Florida Southern started the game by causing a turnover by Mount Olive and after a successful clear scored the first goal with 13:01 and went up 1-0.
  • It took the Trojans near four minutes to find an answer as Austin Whitlow found Gunner Parson for the equalizer with 9:13.
  • The Mocs then went onto to score two back to back goals with under eight minutes to play and took a 3-1 lead.
  • Brody Sullivan helped even the game as he scored twice in 30 seconds off passes from Connor Watson and Tyler Keele and Mount Olive tied the game with 6:18 left in the quarter.
  • The Trojans finally went ahead with a goal from Thatcher Clark with over five minutes to play but the score was answered by FSC and the two teams went into the second tied at four.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Florida Southern scored first 45 seconds into the second and held the 5-4 lead for just over four minutes.
  • Tim Collins helped knot the game at five with his score at the 10:42 mark.
  • The Mocs regained the lead at 6-5 with 8:10 remaining before halftime, but UMO did not let the lead stand.
  • Mount Olive found Clark twice more before the half ended and regained the lead at 7-6 as the half came to a close.

THIRD QUARTER

  • The third quarter saw only two scores and both were by the Trojans. Brody Sullivan (11:32) and Gunner Parson (5:01) put Mount Olive up by three as the Trojans went into the final quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • In the fourth, Mount Olive continued their run that had started in the second with three additional scores to begin the quarter. Keele and Watson pushed the Trojans lead to 12-6 with seven minutes left.
  • Florida Southern did score twice following UMO's three goals, however, it was not enough to stage a comeback as the Mocs fell.
